The Anglo European Miniature Horse Society registers all miniature horses and issues Official AEMHS Registration Certificates, where possible with extended pedigrees. Horses may already be Registered and Passported with any other Society / Association worldwide,or alternatively NOT Registered in any. The AEMHS has several aims but is primarily a MINIATURE HORSE SHOWING ORGANIZATION promoting WORLD CLASS Miniature Horse Showing in UK and EU that anyone can join regardless of where their Miniature Horses are registered. The team behind the AEMHS are the most experienced and expert team in the UK.
Many horses are registered in the AEMHS for showing purposes and once you become a member you receive 50% off entry fees, plus you will be kept up to date with MINIATURE HORSE NEWS via the Society’s magazine ”Mini-Addiction”. WE HAVE LISTED ELEVEN IMPORTANT AIMS OF THE AEMHS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
THE AEMHS HOLD SHOWS AND EVENTS IN THE UK, AND COMMENCING IN LATE SUMMER 2009 THE FIRST MINI SHOW IN SPAIN, WHERE AEMHS HAS A BRANCH.
We are NOT in competition with any of the other Miniature Societies/Associations as we are TOTALLY DIFFERENT and UNIQUE, we support other mini Passport issuing Organizations. If you register your horse with AEMHS and it DOES ALSO require an Official DEFRA Equine Passport, the AEMHS have a unique relationship with the DEFRA recognized Anglo European Stud Book Ltd who issue high quality PASSPORTS (that do not fall apart), exclusively for AEMHS miniatures. All miniature horses who are registered and Passported with us enter the Official Recognized Anglo European Foundation Stud Book and also the National Equine Database. DUE TO OUR EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE of the mini PIO’s (We are ex Directors and FOUNDERS of the International PIO), we can recommend and advise re registration. It can be extremely confusing to the inexperienced, but we are very happy to advise you, and share with you our knowledge and expertise gained over the last 35 years.
The AEMHS is open to two Height categories: Not ex 34 inches - plus 34 inches to 38 inches only. AEMHS SHOWS are open to ALL Miniature Horses up to 38ins.

It is well documented on both sides of the Atlantic, that the origin of the Miniature Horse is firmly in continental Europe and the UK, they have been around for thousands of years. They can be seen on ancient engravings, paintings and pottery. Historically they were also favoured for centuries by European Royalty. Although one of the oldest breeds in existence, they were one of the last to be ‘organized’. These horses are naturally small, obviously a descendant of Eohippus “ Minimus!”

The AEMHS is run by the same team who FOUNDED AND RAN the Miniature Horse Of The Year Show, The International Miniature Society, the Miniature Horse of Great Britain Title, The International Showing Society and the Royal London Show. (See CONTACT page for Committee Members).
The same team who have had over 35 years of experience, they sent the first ever Miniature Horses into Ireland and were Directors/Founders of one of the first DEFRA International Societys/Registers. As breeders they have SOLD to USA Canada, Australia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, France, Spain, Iran and Turkey.
This team has a huge and extensive wealth of knowledge of ALL the Societies & Association and have vast experience in all aspects of the Miniature Horse, globally.
Free advice and information on any aspect of Miniature Horse, owning, showing, breeding, welfare etc happily given by these top experts via email: info@aemhs.com

LEFT: ‘Edwardo Of Kilverstone’ Registered as: Anglo European Mini Horse & an American Mini Horse, Falabella and blend, British Mini Horse and International Mini Horse but he is a second generation BRIT! Born in England by a Stallion also born in UK. He is one of many multi-registered mini horses. EDWARDO was a Multi Champion including Supreme Champion Miniature Horse of the Year when owned & shown by his first owners, the Looking Glass Stud, who purchased him from his breeders Lord and Lady Fisher. Edwardo’s handler in the picture is Sophie Gooding, daughter of AEMHS President Janet Gooding.

RIGHT: ‘Falabella AF Perezoso’ Born in Argentina as a Falabella, purchased from USA as an AMHA American miniature horse and registered in UK as a British Mini Horse! ‘Perezoso’ is Sire of the famous Multi-Supreme Champion Looking GLass Baby Rocco, owned and shown by Janice Goudie & Simon Hall. ‘Perezoso’ is also Sire of British Miniature Champion- Kent County Champion 2008 Looking Glass Born To Be Wild, a 2008 HOYS finalist owned by Karen Toner. This Latin American Miniature ‘ Looking Glass Born To Be Wild’ is also registered in 6 different registers. Another multi registered horse with 6 ‘identitiies!”
It is irrelevant to the value and quality of the miniature horse which ’height’ register/Society the owner/breeder has chosen and paid to register their horse in (and in many cases, multi registers worldwide) it is the quality, presence, conformation and type that makes a miniature horse what it is. IF IT LOOKS LIKE A TRUE EXQUISITE HORSE IN MINIATURE and non-native in type ......... IT IS ONE!! ...If it looks like a little native type pony then it QUITE SIMPLY IS one!!

THE FUTURE OF THE TRUE MINIATURE HORSE BREED IN THE UK / EUROPE IS IN OUR HANDS!

MINIATURE HORSE FACTS NOT FICTION! The truth about all Miniature Horses!
All Miniature Horses need to be registered and SHOWN by TYPE rather than breed .So to clarify any misunderstanding anyone has over the “BREED” it is quite simply ‘THE MINIATURE HORSE‘ with its origins firmly in Europe (including, of course Great Britain, part of Europe too!) As with the superb British Show pony, WHO ALSO RESEMBLE SMALL THOROUGHBREDS and the Show Hack and Show Riding Horse, different types and breeds interbred to form the several different types, categories and height ranges we see today within the breed we know as THE MINIATURE HORSE. Therefore as we have established the Miniature Horse itself IS the Breed, there is no such thing as a ‘purebred’ anything in the Miniature Horse world, so therefore there cannot be a ‘Part Bred’ or ‘cross bred’ either. All Miniature Horses have the same origins, they just were registered in different registers depending on owners/breeders choice. Many are MULTI multi registered. The horse does not ‘assume’ a different breed name by entering any mini Society. An American or a British is not a BREED description, it is a SOCIETY/ASSOCIATION/register of equines under a stipulated height. THE MINIATURE HORSE quite simply IS the breed. So when someone describes their miniature horse as an American or a British or an Anglo European they are actually telling you WHERE AND WITH WHOM it is registered, and of course Falabella lineage, Falabella prefix or (Latin Americans) whether 100% or a blend are also registered in just about EVERY Miniature Horse register too worldwide. A MINIATURE HORSE FACT!

“MAD-ABOUT-MINIS”
The much anticipated publication! Pre-order now. (See contact page for details of how to order)
There is more CONFUSION in this breed than most due to lack of knowledge, ignorance and mis-understanding, you can PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY OF ‘MAD-ABOUT-MINIS’ to read more and be enlightened . It includes certain case histories and studies of many multi-registered horses who are being called 4 or 5 different ‘breeds’ simply due to the REGISTER their owners have chosen to pay to register them in over the years, in different countries. This is absolutely fine and there is no problem, so long as it is quite clear to everyone (and most importantly NEW mini enthusiasts) that a British Miniature can be AMERICAN Mini even though it has never left UK and has NO American relative. Even a Falabella prefix mini registered in Argentina,UK, France or USA can also be an AMERICAN or a British. The more you research ALL minis, the word ‘pure bred’ seems rather silly and a nonsense!! Mad-About-Minis also has previously unseen and quite amazing photos from the past. It is an un-biased book, and a celebration of the beauty of miniature horses worldwide.
Once you have read the content of ‘MAD-ABOUT-MINIS’ the much anticipated publication. It will all become clear and you too will understand the FACTS, the simple truth that there is indeed one true breed of miniaturized equine: it is of course THE MINIATURE HORSE. (Anyone who believes any different is a victim of ‘The Emperors New Clothes)!! To understand the different TYPES please see the TYPES page. To see the innovative new show classes please see Show page

One of the AEMHS’ aim is to ensure the future of the breed by educating people as to the real origins and history of the Miniature Horse (as one breed).

“Like any race or species, without knowledge of its real roots it will be unable to carve its own TRUE destiny”

The AEMHS aims are as follows:

1: To hold multi-Society affiliated major Miniature Horse Shows, Expo’s, Seminars and Teach-In’s with affiliated qualifying classes for all major Championship finals in UK and Ireland, (extending in to Europe with the first AEMHS show in Spain late 2009).

2: To issue Registration Certificates showing the genealogical history / family tree of Miniature Horses of all types, showing extended pedigrees going as far back as possible, and keeping a record of the lineage.

3: To inform and educate Miniature Horse owners or potential owners on all aspects of welfare of The Miniature Horse.

4: To educate and inform about the history and origins of the Miniature Horse and to give expert advice on the criteria required and an explanation of every Miniature Horse Register, Society, Club or Association in the world (advice freely given by top experts, ex-Directors / Chairmen and founders of one of the biggest Miniature Horse DEFRA recognized Societies).

5: To promote and support UK European breeders of true Miniature Horses of ALL types

6: To promote and celebrate the excellence of UK European born/ bred Anglo European Miniature Horses

7: To inform, educate and dispel myths with reference to the true history and origins of the Miniature Horse

8: To hold open Miniature National Conferences, inviting ALL Miniature Horse Societies / Associations to participate, speak and take part. Plus Teach-In’s, Educational Seminars, Training days for Miniature Horse judges and potential Judges. And to promote the CLASSICAL style of showing Miniature Equines.

9: To create a National Miniature Horse Judges panel for UK, Irish and European Judges who will have achieved a required standard of excellence by attending a Judges seminar and passing assessment. The panel can be used by all Societies and Shows in UK/Europe/Ireland.

10: Not to exclude any Miniature Horse of any type from the Register or Show Ring. But instead to encourage and improve the breeding of all types in both height categories and to treat all with equal respect.

11: To give free advice on all aspects of owning, breeding, showing and caring for every Miniature Horse from the family pet through to the Supreme Champion. And advise on registration.

12: To welcome new and novice owners of pet and show minis.
